Time Of Butterflies represents the power of making changes together worldwide by healing and supporting each other.
What we do
We bring awareness to communities in Boston, MA in regard to domestic violence, sexual abuse/assault, emotional abuse and mental health as a whole.
We curate workshops that focus on educating, and providing resources.
We provide support and knowledge to individuals, and families in order to heal.
Survivors of abuse are often left in the dark, and it is difficult for them to share their stories, and heal in order to reach their full potential to be self-sufficient. Our services focus on accomplishing one main goal; that these individuals from these communities can strengthen their adaptive and life skills, which has been affected by their trauma.
We are supporting survivors in creating a path for healing.
Our story begins when our founders discovered firsthand, the lack of support and resources available for survivors of abuse who are women of color in Boston, MA. Time of Butterflies began from a conversation between Kat and Giselle, where for the first time they talked about their traumas. Due to the lack of resources and services they were left alone to heal and during that process they were able to discover the power of healing within a community. Through the exchange of stories, healing occurred, and other women of color felt supported within their community.
Inspired by the story of the Mirabal sisters, who worked with many communities in the Dominican Republic to stand up to their oppressor, they named Time of Butterflies after their story. Time of Butterflies represents making changes together through the power of community.
Our workshops focus on:
After experiencing abuse and/or other trauma an individual's self-esteem is truly impacted in a detrimental way. We are empowering and uplifting those individuals through our services by using the expressive arts, which will allow these individuals to reconnect and love themselves.
With access to the right resources, people can become empowered by their own abilities and gain confidence through skill building. Our services focuses on life skills such as, self-care, opening a bank account, applying for housing, and learning about nutrition, and much more.
It's important to acknowledge, process and manage emotions in order to be able to self-regulate. Individuals who have experienced abuse often find themselves in fight-or-flight mode, and self-regulation can be difficult. We are helping these individuals understand emotions, by educating them on how their trauma affects their autonomic nervous system, while integrating the expressive arts.
Our team is working each and every day to make a positive impact by teaching individuals strategies on how to maintain their safety. Our workshops focus on safe commute, safety in the workplace and how to safely transition out of an abusive relationship.
We believe in,
Empathy, understanding different perspectives and approaches in our interactions and responses to one another.
Collaboration is powerful, and effective. It's impactful to work with others, and it adds more value.
Integrity, we make sure that there is fairness, honesty, and transparency in our services.
Empowerment, we are supportive of others in helping them achieve their full potential, while enabling personal healing.
Respect, we acknowledge everyone's worth and value.
